Sustainable trips/vacations can help YOU having fun and the COUNTRY’S economy that you are visiting.
By travel sustainably, tourism can be used as a catalyst for positive changes. Whether you’re a globetrotter who’s been to 50 countries or someone who only travels only in summer, we all need to better address our own impact and footprint on the region that we are going to.
When we mention the word Vacation, we immediately think of relaxation and enjoyment, but we focus on one aspect of enjoyment when we travel which is having fun by going to parties and similar actions and it is totally fine.
Our main goal here is to show you how you can have fun traveling while learning new things at once!
Visiting local places is the answer. By this, you would be able to see the real people of that city and those people always tend to be very friendly, honest and humble. Learning new language, discovering new places, and building new relationships are all things that you will acquire when visiting local places in your vacation. Most of the people, in local places, does not speak good English. So, in order to communicate with them, then you would have to learn some words/sentences from them. It may feel embarrassing or uncomfortable but doing it and asking for constructive criticism is one of the best ways to learn a new skill and get to know new cultures. The only people who knows all the best local places are the local people, so by going there you will be able to discover all of those awesome hidden places. Most importantly is making relationships with those local people is the key for all the other mentioned points. You would learn lots of stuff from them such as their politician, economy, and many other things regarding their lifestyle.
Travel and tourism take up 9.8 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), generating $7.2 trillion. Indeed many communities thrive off of tourism. However, tourism leakage occurs when profits end up leaving communities after outsourced expenditures. This is common with most of the all-inclusive travel packages. The best thing you can do to mitigate tourism leakage is to shopping from local places. By doing this, you’re investing in cultural and environmental preservation. Here are some tips:
• Purchase authentic souvenirs made in the country you’re visiting.
• Buy food at local farmers’ markets.
• Stop going to Starbucks and McDonalds! Find the mom-and-pop restaurants that serve local food.
• Look for housing accommodations owned by locals (I like airbnb.com or bookings.com).
• Look for tours hosted by local companies, if possible.
